It was a few months after Hades and Persephone were in love when Zeus decided to take his wife to the underworld, to prove to her that her daughter was truly happy with Hades. She gleefully ate all the seeds, knowing that her heart belonged with Hades. He told her that if she ate the seeds, her home would always be the underworld with him and that no one would be able to take her away. She was in a garden one morning when she was visited by Hades who gave her six pomegranate seeds. But after some time, she eventually fell in love with him. In the beginning, Persephone missed her mother and expressed hate towards Hades. Meanwhile, in the underworld, Hades was wooing Persephone and was showing his love for her. Earth was turning dry, animals were dying, harvest was failing. Without any solution and due to the lack of her daughter’s presence, the goddess of harvest failed to deliver her duties and drowned herself in sorrow. However, it was difficult for her to go to the underground and take her daughter. Fortunately for her, one of her daughter’s friends had witnessed Hades taking Persephone. The ground closed after them, leaving no evidence that the incident occurred.Ī few hours later, distraught Demeter worriedly searched through the grounds for her daughter in. Before she could scream for help, Hades grabbed her and took her to the underground. Suddenly, the ground beneath her split open and Hades appeared in a chariot led by black horses. As if it was calling out to her, she went closer to it, touching its soft petals. She wandered alone in the opposite direction of her friends when she came across a small garden, where the most beautiful narcissus flower she’s ever seen was standing in the middle. Persephone was happily enjoying her time with friends in a field. Heartbroken and upset, Hades came up with a plan with the help of Zeus kidnap Persephone. However, Demeter denied the proposal furiously. Zeus immediately agreed and was happy he would give his daughter to a powerful man he trusted. He later conversed with Zeus and Demeter, asking for Persephone’s hand in marriage. One day, Hades (god of the underworld) was strolling on the above ground until his sight fell upon Persephone and deeply fell in love with her. She grew up into a young woman full of beauty, kindness and naivety who attracted many gods and goddesses. Demeter was very protective of Persephone and hid her from all the evil in the world. Persephone was the daughter of Zeus (king of gods) and Demeter (goddess of harvest). There are a lot of versions of this story, but this one is my favourite one. One of the best love stories I have read about is about Hades and Persephone. Therefore, a few of my posts will be about love stories within Greek mythology. Greek mythology has recently peaked my interest, especially love stories.
